# Welsh, Gaelic and Scots in the portal — a progress note

*Source: https://credicorp.co.uk/welsh-gaelic-scots-progress-note/*

Last year we set out to make the credicorp.co.uk site readable in Welsh, Scottish Gaelic and Scots, with English as the canonical version. We started with the marketing pages — the language hubs, the business-loans pages, the help articles — and committed to widening coverage to the customer portal over time. This week we extended the dictionary by about a hundred new entries across all three languages.

## What changed

You will now see Cymraeg, Gàidhlig and Scots for chrome and form micro-copy that used to remain in English even when the rest of the page had switched language. Buttons (Submit / Continue / Send / Save), form errors (Required, Please try again), money copy (Outstanding balance, Next payment, Pay now, Settle early), hardship copy (I’m struggling to pay, Forbearance, Payment plan), application labels (Approved, Declined, Pending review), and the footer chrome (Privacy, Terms, Sitemap, My account, Sign out) all have entries now in each of the three languages.

## How translations land

Each new translation is drafted, then flagged as a draft against an open native-speaker review entry in our legal-review register. Native speakers review them before they are considered final. If you spot anything that reads strangely or is plainly wrong, please tell us — Welsh, Gaelic and Scots are living languages and we would rather change a translation than defend it. The legal cite text on the per-jurisdiction Legal pages remains in English (our solicitor’s wording), but the surrounding navigation should follow whichever language you have selected.

## Why we keep at it

People who are reading a page in their first language understand more, ask better questions, and feel respected. A finance product is exactly the kind of place we should not assume English is enough. Our coverage is far from finished — application-flow steps and many longer hardship explanations still need work — but with this week’s extension the chrome of the portal stays in your selected language end-to-end, not English-with-Welsh-bits. If you want to see the wider plan, the language hubs at [/cy/](/cy/), [/gd/](/gd/) and [/sco/](/sco/) set out where we are.
