What is a hardship variation?

Financial difficulty

A hardship variation is a change to the terms of your loan to reflect a genuine, often longer-term, change in your circumstances — for example illness, reduced income, job loss or a relationship breakdown.

To consider a variation we will ask about your income and essential outgoings so any new arrangement is realistic and sustainable. Apply with the Hardship Variation Request form. Free, independent money advice is also available from organisations such as Citizens Advice and StepChange.
